OUR HISTORY
THE HISTORY OF PACESETTERS OF OSOORO
In November 1997, a group of friends in the constituent towns of Igbotako, Ijuodo, Ilutitun and Erekiti responded to a perceived disunity in Osooro land. This disunity was at the peak when it was thought that Osooro local government area was not created due to the wrangling amongst the three major towns. The average age of these young friends then, was nineteen (19) years.
In the inaugural meeting, held at Otunba Dr. Oluseyi Aba’s family house in Ijuodo, the club started with the name Pacesetters Elevation Movement of Osooro (PEMOS). “Progress in Unity” was agreed as the motor of the club. PEMOS slogan in Pacesetters for progress; Pacesetters for Unity! The club moved quickly to restore unity in the land with the first ever Unity Summit hosted by the club in the main auditorium of Manuwa Memorial Grammar School, Iju-Odo in 1997.
PEMOS continued to achieve her goals by organizing various programmes that facilitated unity and progress in the land. Some of the projects are: First political debate in the land, Essay writing competitions, Unity meetings and so on and so forth.
The club has gone through her ups and downs too. The young men in the club were separated by the bullies of life. Everyone, every Pacesetter moving on with his life. Despite the distances between members the club continued to exist unlike many other clubs. The continued existence was challenged and challenging. One catastrophic event was the sudden passing of the inaugural President, Mr Olaiya James Ayeyi, in 2007; eternal rest grant him O Lord.
PEMOS continued to play her part in the passing of time as a formidable club in Osooro. In 2016 there was a turnaround meeting held online. The new name of the club, THE PACESETTERS CLUB OF OSOORO was adopted. Women were allowed to join the club and the membership cap of the club was increased to fifty. PCOS set up a perpetual scholarship programme for students of Junior Secondary schools in all public schools in the Land.
Finally, PCOS is now a frontier social club in Africa. The club can boast of members across the world focusing on the development of human kind and Osooro land. Membership of the club is open to indigenes, friends and associates who are ready to partners with us to develop the land and its people.
You are most welcome.
INTRODUCTION
WHO WE ARE

PROUD
A PROUD PACESETTER
I am most honored and humbled to be elected President of the Pacesetters Club of Osooro 2023 – 2025. With the help and support of my Board members and fellow Club members, I will do my best to meet the challenge. Our club has been built on a strong leadership foundation, and I am fortunate to have a membership that is fully committed to the Pacesetters ideal of Service Above Self and continues to go the extra mile in building the club, and carrying out the many worthwhile projects that we undertake for the benefit of our community.
I would also like to congratulate each of the new Board members. Our fellow club members have shown their confidence in you and me by electing us to our respective positions, and I look forward to serving with you. I have already seen the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that you bring to the Board. As I have always said, “Our compassion and our ability to open our hearts to those in need combined with our commitment to share our time, talent, and treasures with those who are less fortunate is what causes ordinary Pacesetters such as ourselves to do the extraordinary things that we do”. It’s what makes Pacesetters Club of Osooro so magical.
My theme, if we need one for our club, is I want us all to be proud of being a Pacesetter. We are a humanitarian Service Club full of volunteers of different education and career backgrounds. That makes for a terrific mixture of ideas and approaches to dealing within our community.
There are many needy people throughout our community whose only hope will come from our Club. Let us all be ready to make their lives better in any way that we can. As Pacesetters, it will not be good enough to give only what we have left over or what we can spare, but we must truly give of ourselves with new vigor in support of our ideals.
All of us in Pacesetters Club are looking to change the community. Why else would we be Pacesetters? We believe that our community can be happier, healthier, and more peaceful. We believe that the future can and will be better than the past. We are idealists, and we bring our ideals to life through our service.
Our work is at an important stage as I look to the future and to serving as your President.
I hope to serve you well with the support of each of you. Let us all reach within to embrace our humanity as we go forward.
Thank you,

Attorney Femi Ogunjumelo
President 2023 - 2025
